April 2, 1998. Maria is goofing around with none other than Dr. C. Everett Koop, thirteenth Surgeon General of the United States. Dr. Koop was part of a special program at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in which all the living Surgeons General participated. Maria was one of the doctoral students who were selected to escort the Surgeons General. Dr. Koop is wearing the uniform of the U.S. Public Health Service. There was a special dinner following the program during which I had the honor of meeting Dr. Koop.
