Planetary Conjunction  (April-May 2002)

Image     An Uncommon Astronomical Event

Every several decades, the five planets visible to the naked eye (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn) appear close together in the sky. This event is called a planetary conjunction.

This photo was taken of the western sky shortly after sunset from Cockeysville, Maryland at approximately 8:30 pm EDT on April 26, 2002 (Canon A-1 camera with 24 mm lens and Fujicolor 400 film exposed for 4 seconds at f/2.8, ISO 400; print scanned at 300 dpi and processed in Photoshop).
