A goal for the trip was to make a time-lapse movie of the Venus transit. This involved a number of technical challenges, including accurate tracking of the sun, getting all the equipment there intact, and not forgetting a critical component. Before the trip, we tested the setup several times to work out the bugs. The setup basically consisted of (A) solar filter; (B) 3.5-inch telescope; (C) digital SLR camera; (D) laptop computer to control the camera; (E) lots of cables, connectors, and adapters; (F) telescope mount with digital tracking; and (G) a capable assistant. The black cases were for protection of the various components during transport.
