Maria found her favorite object in the southern sky. It is Omega Centauri, a globular star cluster in the constellation Centaurus (the centaur). It is a group of thousands of stars and is the brightest star cluster in the entire sky. There is nothing quite like it in the skies of the northern hemisphere. We saw it through the eyepiece of a very large telescope with a 25" mirror. To our spoiled eyes, this photo seems like a poor substitute, but we are grateful to have it as a souvenir.
