A glacier challenges our daily knowledge about ice. Its ice is so deep and heavy that the pressure turns the ice into a slowly moving fluid that flows several inches per year. A glacier's seasonal freezing, thawing, and movement break up the rock along the sides. Underneath the gravel and silt, there's still more ice.
