The Athabasca Glacier's source of ice is over the top of the glacier and beyond view. This source is the Columbia Icefield, a massive collection of ice the size of a medium city, left over from the last ice age. Some day, the Athabasca Glacier may melt away completely, leaving an alpine lake similar to Lake Louise.
