The Last Supper is one of the most famous paintings in history. It was painted by Leonardo da Vinci in the late 1490s, under commission from the Duke of Milan, to decorate the monastery's dining room. To view the painting properly, you should stand at the opposite end of the room, not underneath it. From the more distant vantage point, it is apparent that the painting's perspective was intended to be an extension of the room.
